Lipid monitoring for high-risk patients
The need
Point-of-care lipid meters fall short where new treatments need them most: in a 2025 BMJ Open review, only 2 of 6 devices met most NCEP accuracy criteria, and patients with severe hypertriglyceridemia sit above their measuring range.
Why now
Olezarsen was approved for severe hypertriglyceridemia in June 2026, and Ionis puts the US patient population at more than 3 million.

Patients on GLP-1 drugs lose muscle as well as fat: about 25% of the weight lost on tirzepatide was lean mass (SURMOUNT-1). Body composition is measured in the clinic, by DXA or MRI; between visits, patients and doctors have no simple way to see whether the weight lost is fat or muscle.
Why now
Muscle-preservation drug trials, such as Lilly's BELIEVE and Regeneron's COURAGE, measure body composition by clinic DXA, and FDA's 2025 draft guidance for obesity drugs asks for DXA or a suitable alternative.
